AUTOMATIC TRANSFER
SWITCH & START UNIT FOR
DIESEL GENERATORS
1. GENERAL INFORMATION
EAOM-11.2 Automatic Transfer Unit is designed to be
automatically engaged in case of energy failures in generators of
various capacities. The Automatic Transfer Unit is capable of
disengaging and thus protecting either the generator or the
energy receiving system (load) depending upon the type of
failure. Any failures are indicated on the Failure Led Indicators
upon the Transfer Unit and could be stored in memory until
failure deletion. In case of any failure, the unit is also capable of
giving a vocal warning (horn) and either a Yellow or Red Alarm
warning output depending upon the type of failure and in order to
warn the operator in charge. The front board of the Automatic
Transfer Unit features push-buttons to select the run mode, to
silence the horn, to delete failures and to test the bulb, as well as
led indicators to show failures and run modes. EAOM-11.2
Automatic Transfer Unit which features serial communication
outlet (RS-232) is capable of connecting to personal computers
(PC). This connection enables the operator to observe the
mains, generator voltages, speed information, failures and relay
outlet status on the computer display. Added to this, the
programme parameter values stored in the Automatic Transfer
Unit could be changed and current values could be observed.
Also, the programme parameters of the Automatıcal Transfer
Board could be changed by means of a special programmer. Led
indicators for failures and run modes could be tested by means
of a bulb test.

2.RUN MODES
2.1.MANUAL RUN MODE
In the manual run mode, Automatic Transfer Unit is disengaged and incapable of intervening with the system. For this
reason, it is not possible for the generator to be automatically engaged by the Automatic Transfer Unit in case of any energy
failures in the manual mode. However, the mains, generator voltages, speed information could still be observed and indicated
on the mimic diagram in this mode. Programme parameters of the system could only be changed and observed in the manual
mode.
2.2.AUTOMATICAL RUN MODE
In this mode, the generator is automatically engaged in case of any energy failures and the system failures are
observed. This mode disengages either the generator or the energy receiving system (load) (depending on the type of failure) in
failures arising after the generator is engaged and sounds the horn.
2.3.TEST RUN MODE
This mode is used to engage the generator in the presence of the mains and run the generator unloaded. As in the
automatic mode all kinds of failures are observed in this mode and the generator is disengaged according to the type of failure
and the horn is sounded. In case an energy failure occurs while the unit is running in this mode, then the Transfer Unit converts
to the Automatic Mode and transfers the load onto the generator.
2.4.REMOTE START RUN MODE
The Remote Start Run Mode is similar to the Automatic Mode. In this mode, the generator is not automatically engaged
in case of any failures. The generator could only be engaged if the remote start energy inlet is permitted. When the remote start
inlet is passivated , the engine sops immediately.
2.5.INTER-MODAL TRANSITION
It is possible to make transitions to and from the Manual, Automatic, Remote Start and Test Modes at any moment.
Only, when the Automatic Transfer Unit is converted into the Test Mode while there is no mains, the Unit automatically returns
to the Automatic Mode and starts the system.
3.FAILURES OBSERVED BY THE AUTOMATICAL TRANSFER UNIT AND TYPES
OF BEHAVIOR DURING SAID FAILURES
3.1.FAILURES INDICATED BY A LED INDICATOR ON THE AUTOMATICAL TRANSFER UNIT
1-Start Failure Red Alarm
2-Low Oil Pressure Red Alarm
3-Excessive Temperature Red Alarm
4-High/Low Speed Red Alarm
5-Overload Yellow Alarm
6-Charge Generator Failure Red Alarm
7-Generator Voltage Failure Yellow Alarm
8-Fuel Level Low Red Alarm
9-Alternatör Winding Fail Yellow Alarm
10-DC Voltage Fail Red Alarm
3.2.TYPES OF BEHAVIOR DURING FAILURE
1- Start Failure: In case the engine fails during the starting period, then the starter is activated continuously. After the
said period is expired the operator waits during a period which is twice the starting period and this process is repeated until the
engine running information is received. In case the said information is not received after a number of attempts to start the
engine, a start failure incurs, the horn is sounded and a red warning is given.

2- Low Oil Pressure: In case a problem exists in the oil circulation system of the engine, then an Oil Pressure Failure
incurs, the engine stops, the horn is sounded and a red warning is given.
3- Excessive Temperature: In case the engine heats excessively, then an Oil Pressure Failure incurs, the engine
stops, the horn is sounded and a red warning is given.
4- High/Low Speed: In case the output voltage frequency (speed) of the generator is beyond the predetermined
minimum and maximum limits, then a High/Low Speed Failure incurs, the engine stops, the horn is sounded and a red warning
is given
5- Overload : In case the current drawn by the energy receiving system (load) exceeds the capacity of the generator,
then an Overload Failure incurs, the load is separated from the generator, the horn is sounded and yellow warning is given.
6- Charge Generator Failure: If the unit fails to read a voltage from the charge generator voltage inlet while the engine
is running, then a Charge Generator Failure incurs, the horn is sounded and yellow warning is given.
7- Generator Voltage Failure: In case the lever of voltage generated by the generator is beyond the
predetermined maximum and minimum limits, then a Generator Voltage Failure incurs, the engine stops, the horn is sounded
and red warning is given.
8- Reserve - 1, Reserve - 2, Reserve - 3 Failures:
There are types of behavior which could be separately determined
for each reserve failure inlet. These are as follows :
1- Only Horn Temporary
2- Only Horn Permanent
3- Generator Contactor Releaser + Horn
4- Engine Stopper + Generator Contactor Releaser + Horn
9- Emergency Stop :When an outside Emergency Stop information arrives at the Automatic Transfer Unit, the engine
stops running, the starter stops, the horn is sounded and a red warning is given.
4.PROGRAMME PARAMETERS
4.1.CHANGING PROGRAMME PARAMETERS
The Programme Parameters upon the Automatic Transfer could be changed in 3 ways:
1-Via the Automatic Transfer Board
2-By means of a serial communication line connected to a personal computer (PC)
3-Via the Programmer Case connected to the Automatic Transfer Unit's Serial Communication port.
4.1.1.Entering of Programme Parameters via the Automatic Transfer Board
In order to enter the programming mode, convert the Automatic Transfer Unit to Manuel Mode first. Push the PROG
button.
When the PROG button is pushed, the transfer board shall ask you to enter the Operator password. If you wish to enter
the Technician password instead of the Operator password, push the MODE button for 10 seconds. After this period is expired,
the transfer unit shall ask you the Technician password.
If you enter either the Operator or Technician password correctly, then the Programmer Case shall verify the password
and permit you to enter the Programming Mode.
You may access any desired parameter via the MODE button and read its value. You may change the parameter value
by making use of the INC and DEC buttons and store the new values by making use of the ENTER button.
In order to quit the programming mode after changing all desired parameters push the MODE button until the following
massages are displayed on the LCD screen :
" QUITTING PROGRAMME "
" PRESS ENTER "
The transfer board shall quit the programming mode if you push ENTER after seeing this massage.
