How to calculate the amount of light required
The basic formula to calculate this theoretical light requirement is:
Lumens (L) = Average Screen Brightness desired (average fL)
X Screen Area (sq ft)
• Givenagoodlightdistribution,the“AverageScreenBrightness”
canbeestimatedbymultiplyingthecenterbrightnessdesiredby
0.95.Generallyacceptedpracticeforthetargetcenterbrightness
is:14fLfor2Dand4.5fLfor3D(lightmeasurementtakenthrough
3Dglasses).
Afteryouhavethe“Lumens”numberyouwoulddivideitbyall
signicantsystemefciencies.Someexampleswouldbe:
•
Screen gain: 1.0 to 2.4. Silver screens are a 2.4. This is very important

How to determine average expected life
In the “Lamp Brochure” you will nd an “Estimated average expected life”
number for each lamp/projector combination.
This number is a guideline to help you determine how longaparticular
lamp can be operated under optimal conditions as described here.
If the operating situation is not optimal then shortera lamp life
can be expected.
Non-optimal conditions would include:
• Startingthelampoutnearorabove100%powerandrunning
