USING THE UNIT SAFELY
Used for instructions intended to alert the
user to the risk of injury or material
damage should the unit be used
improperly.
* Material damage refers to damage or
other adverse effects caused with
respect to the home and all its
furnishings, as well to domestic animals

Concerning the Auto Power O function
The power to this unit will be turned o
automatically after a predetermined amount
of time has passed since it was last used for playing
music, or its buttons or controls were operated (Auto
Power O function). If you do not want the power to
be turned o automatically, disengage the Auto Power
O function.
Do not disassemble or modify by yourself
Do not carry out anything unless you are
instructed to do so in the owner’s manual.
Otherwise, you risk causing malfunction.
Do not repair or replace parts by yourself
Refer all servicing to your retailer, the nearest
Roland Service Center, or an authorized Roland
distributor, as listed on the “Information.
Do not use or store in the following types of
locations
Subject to temperature extremes (e.g.,
direct sunlight in an enclosed vehicle, near
a heating duct, on top of heat-generating
equipment); or are
Damp (e.g., baths, washrooms, on wet
oors); or are
Exposed to steam or smoke; or are
Subject to salt exposure; or are
Exposed to rain; or are
Dusty or sandy; or are
Subject to high levels of vibration and shakiness;
or are
Placed in a poorly ventilated location.
Do not place in an unstable location
Otherwise, you risk injury as the result of the
unit toppling over or dropping down.
Avoid extended use at high volume
Use of the unit at high volume for extended
periods of time may cause hearing loss. If you
ever experience any hearing loss or ringing in
the ears, you should immediately stop using the unit
and consult a specialized physician.
Do not allow foreign objects or liquids to enter unit;
never place containers with liquid on unit
Do not place containers containing liquid
(e.g., ower vases) on this product. Never
allow foreign objects (e.g., ammable objects,
coins, wires) or liquids (e.g., water or juice)
to enter this product. Doing so may cause
short circuits, faulty operation, or other
malfunctions.
Turn o the unit if an abnormality or malfunction
occurs
Immediately turn the unit o, and request
servicing by your retailer, the nearest Roland
Service Center, or an authorized Roland
distributor, as listed on the “Information” when:
If smoke or unusual odor occurs; or
Objects have fallen into, or liquid has been spilled
onto the unit; or
The unit has been exposed to rain (or otherwise
has become wet); or
The unit does not appear to operate normally or
exhibits a marked change in performance.
Be cautious to protect children from injury
Always make sure that an adult is on hand to
provide supervision and guidance when using
the unit in places where children are present,
or when a child will be using the unit.
Do not drop or subject to strong impact
Otherwise, you risk causing damage or
malfunction.
WARNING
Handle lithium batteries carefully
Lithium batteries must never be
recharged, heated, taken apart, or thrown
into a re or water.
When replacing lithium batteries, make
sure that you put them in a place where
children cannot reach or touch them.
Keep lithium batteries out of reach of
small children.
In the event that someone accidentally
swallows a lithium battery, this could
cause serious or life-threatening problems
within a matter of a two hours. Contact a
doctor at once.
Never expose lithium batteries to excessive
heat such as sunshine, re or the like.
CAUTION
Route all power cords and cables in such a way as to
prevent them from getting entangled
Injury could result if someone were to trip on a
cable and cause the unit to fall or topple.
Avoid climbing on top of the unit, or placing heavy
objects on it
Otherwise, you risk injury as the result of the

Disconnect all cords/cables before moving the unit

disconnect all cables before moving the unit.
Handle batteries carefully
If used improperly, batteries may explode
or leak and cause damage or injury. In the
interest of safety, please read and observe the
following precautions.

instructions for batteries, and make sure
you observe the correct polarity.
If you won’t be using the unit for an
extended period of time, save any stored
content, for example by making a note of it, and
then remove the batteries.
Never keep batteries together with metallic objects
such as ballpoint pens, necklaces, hairpins, etc.
Used batteries must be disposed of in compliance
with whatever regulations for their safe disposal that
may be observed in the region in which you live.

it as directed (to ensure correct polarity).

rub your eyes; use clean water to ush
them thoroughly. Then, promptly see a

has gotten onto your skin or clothing. Use clean
water to ush aected areas thoroughly; then,
promptly see a doctor.
Using a soft cloth, carefully wipe any remaining
uid from the inside of the battery compartment.
Then, install new batteries.

6 Comes not only with basic Styles (the way the metronome
sound is played) pre-programmed, but also Styles with
compound beats.
6 You can set the tempo by pressing the TAP button in time with
the song tempo (tap input of the tempo).
6 You can specify the reference tone in semitone increments
over a range of one octave. This is convenient for use in
practicing with wind instruments and for tuning (Reference
Tone function).

turns o the power when the DB-30 is not used for

9Using the DB-30 as a Metronome
1. With the power turned on, press the RHYTHM/BEAT
button to switch the DB-30 to Metronome mode.
When the DB-30 is in Metronome mode, “RHYTHM,” “TEMPO,
and “BEAT” appear in the display.
2. If “RHYTHM,” “TEMPO, “BEAT” and are displayed,
press the TEMPO/VALUE H/I buttons to set the tempo.

3. Press the START/STOP button to start the metronome.
To stop the metronome, press the START/STOP button
once more.
* You cannot change the tempo with the TEMPO/VALUE or buttons while I H
“RHYTHM” “BEAT” or is ashing in the display. If you want to change the
tempo, press the RHYTHM/BEAT button so and “RHYTHM” “BEAT” stop
ashing and remain lit in the display.
Setting the Tempo with Tap Input
While in Metronome mode, with the metronome stopped, you can
tap the TAP/MUTE button two or more times to set the tempo so it
matches the timing you’ve used in tapping the button.
* You cannot change the tempo with the TAP/MUTE button while the
metronome is playing.
Setting the Way the Metronome Plays
1. Press the RHYTHM/BEAT button in Metronome mode
so that or “RHYTHM” “BEAT ashes in the display.
2. Select a Rhythm or a Beat with the TEMPO/VALUE or I
H buttons.
If is ashing in the display, you can select from 9 “RHYTHM”
dierent Rhythms. If “BEAT is ashing in the display, you can
select from 24 dierent Beats. Holding down the TEMPO/VALUE

button when setting the beat causes the values to change
continuously.
9Playing the Reference Tone
1. With the power turned on, press the NOTE/PITCH
button to switch to Reference Tone mode.
When the DB-30 is in Reference Tone mode, or “PITCH” “NOTE”
appears in the display.
2. While is lit in the display, set the note name “NOTE”
with the TEMPO/VALUE I or buttons.H
You can set the note name in semitone increments over an octave
range from C to B.
* You cannot change the note name with the TEMPO/VALUE or buttons I H
while is lit in the display. If you want to change the note name, press “PITCH”
the NOTE/PITCH button so is lit in the display.“NOTE”
3. Press the START/STOP button to play the reference
tone. Press the START/STOP button again to stop the
sound.
Setting the Reference Pitch
1. Press the NOTE/PITCH button in Reference Tone mode
so that is lit in the display.“PITCH”
2. Set the reference pitch with the TEMPO/VALUE or I H
buttons.
The reference pitch is set in terms of the value of A4, which can be
any frequency from 438 to 445 Hz.
* If you want to change the note name, press the NOTE/PITCH button so “NOTE”
is lit in the display.
What is the reference pitch?
The frequency for A4 (the middle A on a piano) of a note played by
an instrument (a piano, for example) as the pitch to which all other
performers tune their instruments for performances is called the
“reference pitch.
Other Functions
Auto Power O
The Auto Power O function works to help prevent unnecessary
battery drainage by automatically turning o the DB-30’s power
if no operation or adjustment is made within 60 minutes after any
button is pressed.
* The power to this unit will be turned o automatically after a predetermined
amount of time has passed since it was last used for playing music, or its
buttons or controls were operated (Auto Power O function).
If you do not want the power to be turned o
automatically, disengage the Auto Power O function.
5Unsaved data is lost when the power turns o. Before turning the
power o, save the data that you want to keep.
5To restore power, turn the power on again.
7Disabling the Auto Power O Function
To disable the Auto Power O function, rst turn o the DB-30’s
power, then hold down the TAP/MUTE button as you press the
POWER button to turn the power back on again.
The Auto Power O function is disabled. is indicated in the
display while the TAP/MUTE button is held down.
The Auto Power O function is enabled again the next time the
DB-30 is turned on again.
9Changing the Battery
The display and indicators get dimmer and the volume starts to
drop when the battery starts running down.
Replace the battery as soon as possible.
* If you handle batteries improperly, you risk explosion and uid leakage. Make
sure that you carefully observe all of the items related to batteries that are listed
in “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” “IMPORTANT NOTES. and
* The settings stored in the memory are reset to the default factory settings if the
battery is removed from the DB-30, or if the battery get completely depleted.
* When turning the unit upside-down, handle with care to avoid dropping it, or
damaging the buttons and controls.

the power to this unit and disconnect all connections to other
devices.

primary purpose was to enable testing.
Restoring the Factory Settings
This returns all settings on the DB-30 to the values they had when
the unit shipped from the factory.
1. Hold down the START/STOP button as you press the
POWER button to turn the power on.

Troubleshooting
The power doesn’t come on, the power shuts o right after the
unit is turned on, or the power shuts o or operation becomes
unstable during use.

When the battery run down, the unit may fail to run normally.
Replace with a new battery.
* The battery included with the unit are intended to be used only for verifying
operation.
* Using headphones when the battery is low may cause the unit to fail to run
normally.

Placement
This unit may interfere with radio and television
reception. Do not use this unit in the vicinity of
such receivers.
Noise may be produced if wireless communications
devices, such as cell phones, are operated in the
vicinity of this unit. Such noise could occur when
receiving or initiating a call, or while conversing.
Should you experience such problems, you should
relocate such wireless devices so they are at a
greater distance from this unit, or switch them o.
When moved from one location to another where
the temperature and/or humidity is very dierent,
water droplets (condensation) may form inside
the unit. Damage or malfunction may result if you
attempt to use the unit in this condition. Therefore,
before using the unit, you must allow it to stand
for several hours, until the condensation has
completely evaporated.
Do not place containers or anything else
containing liquid on top of this unit. Also,
whenever any liquid has been spilled on the
surface of this unit, be sure to promptly wipe it
away using a soft, dry cloth.
Maintenance
Never use benzine, thinners, alcohol or solvents of
any kind, to avoid the possibility of discoloration
and/or deformation.
Repairs and Data
Before sending the unit away for repairs, you may
prefer to write down the needed information.
Although we will do our utmost to preserve the
data stored in your unit when we carry out repairs,
in some cases, such as when the memory section
is physically damaged, restoration of the stored
content may be impossible. Roland assumes no
liability concerning the restoration of any stored
content that has been lost.
Additional Precautions
Any data stored within the unit can be lost as the
result of equipment failure, incorrect operation,
etc. To avoid inconvenience in the event of data
loss, make a note of any important settings.
