4. What is Arduino®
Arduino ® is an open-source prototyping platform based in easy- -use hardware and software. Arduinoto ® boards
are able to read inputs light-on sensor, a finger on a button or a Twitter message and turn it into an output – –
– activating of a motor, turning on an LED, publishing something online. You can tell your board what to do by
sending a set of instructions to the microcontroller on the board. To do so, you use the Arduino programming
language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino ® software IDE (based on Processing).

5. Overview
VMA 432
The VMA324 (DS18B20) digital thermometer provides 9 to 12-bit (configurable) temperature readings, which
indicate the temperature of the device.
ï‚· DS18B20 specs: unique 1-wire interface requires only one port pin for communication
ï‚· multi-drop capability simplifies distributed temperature sensing applications
ï‚· requires no external components
ï‚· can be powered from data line, power supply range is 3.0 V to 5.5 V
ï‚· zero standby power required
 measures temperatures from - °C to +125 °C (- °F to +257 °F) 55 67
 ± 0.5 °C accuracy from - °C to +85 10 °C
ï‚· thermometer resolution is programmable from 9 to 12 bits
ï‚· converts 12-bit temperature to digital word in 750 ms (max.)
ï‚· user-definable, non-volatile temperature alarm settings
ï‚· alarm search command identifies and addresses devices whose temperature is outside of programmed
limits (temperature alarm condition)
