Follow basic safety precautions, including:
1 This appliance must only be used by or under the supervision of a responsible adult. Use and
store the appliance out of reach of children.
2 Donāt put the appliance in liquid, donāt use it in a bathroom, near water, or outdoors.
3 Donāt touch hot surfaces (e.g. carafe, hotplate).
4 Keep the appliance and cable away from the edges of worktops and out of reach of children.
5 Sit the appliance on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface.
6 Route the cable so it doesnāt overhang, and canāt be tripped over or caught.
7 Unplug the appliance when not in use, before moving and before cleaning.
8 If you want to stop the coļ¬ee maker while itās brewing, move the switch to 0.
9 Donāt put the carafe in a microwave oven.
10 Donāt try to adjust the metal band round the carafe, youāll break the glass.
11 Donāt use accessories or attachments other than those we supply.
12 Donāt use the appliance for any purpose other than those described in these instructions.
13 This appliance must not be operated by an external timer or remote control system.
14 Donāt use the appliance if itās damaged or malfunctions.
15 If the cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or
someone similarly qualiļ¬ed, in order to avoid hazard.

before using for the ļ¬rst time
1 Fill the reservoir to the :; mark, and run the appliance without coļ¬ee.
2 Let it cool, discard the water, then use it normally.
ļ¬lling
3 Remove the carafe from the hotplate.
4 Use the grip to open the lid, and expose the reservoir.
5 Use the carafe to ļ¬ll the reservoir, to avoid overļ¬lling.
6 Press the lever at the rear of the carafe lid, above the handle, to open the carafe lid.
7 Fill with at least 2 cups of water, but not above the :; mark.
8 Open up a #4 paper ļ¬lter, and put it into the ļ¬lter holder.

9 Put ļ¬lter-ground coļ¬ee into the ļ¬lter. The amount will vary with the type of coļ¬ee and
individual taste, but we suggest two rounded teaspoons per cup of water.
10 Close the lid
11 Replace the carafe on the hotplate.

12 Put the plug into the power socket.
13 Move the switch to 1. The light will come on.
14 Shortly afterwards, coļ¬ee will start to drip into the carafe.
15 When itās done, the hotplate will keep the carafe warm.
16 If left for much more than an hour, chemical changes in the coļ¬ee liquor start to aļ¬ect the
ļ¬avour. Itās best to pour it away and make a fresh pot.

17 You can remove the carafe at any time. To prevent the ļ¬lter holder overļ¬owing, replace the
carafe on the hotplate within about 20 seconds.

18 Move the switch to 0. The light will go oļ¬.
19 Unplug, and let the appliance and carafe cool down fully before cleaning, or for about 10
minutes before reļ¬lling.

20 Unplug the appliance and let it cool down before cleaning or storing away.
21 Use the grip to open the lid.
22 Use the handles on the sides of the ļ¬lter holder to lift it out.
23 Tip the contents of the ļ¬lter holder into the bin.
24 You may clean the carafe and ļ¬lter holder in warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly afterwards,
to remove all traces of soap.
25 Clean the outside surfaces of the appliance with a damp cloth.
26 Align the tab at the back of the ļ¬lter holder with the slot at the back of the coļ¬ee maker, and
lower the ļ¬lter holder back into the coļ¬ee maker.
27 Close the lid.
28 Donāt put any part of the appliance in a dishwasher.

29 Descale regularly. Use a proprietary brand of descaler suitable for use in plastic-bodied
products. Follow the instructions on the package of descaler.
