1 About this document
This document describes the use of the above-mentioned product.
1.1 Applicable Documents
All available documents for the product www.festo.com/sp.è
2 Safety
2.1 General safety instructions
– Only use the product in original status without unauthorised modifications.
– Only use the product if it is in perfect technical condition.
– Comply with all applicable national and international instructions.
– Take into consideration the ambient conditions at the location of use.
– Observe the specifications on the product labelling.
Media
– Use only media in accordance with the specifications 13 Technical data.è
– Use only media to which the materials used for the seal cartridge and cover
are resistant. For evaluation of the media resistance www.festo.com.è
– Use only media that will not cause dangerous reactions if mixed.
– Due to its design, the valve is not generally suitable for solids (granulates).
Before using solids, the customer should determine that they are suitable.
Piping
Depending on the medium and the operating conditions, pressure peaks that
exceed the permissible pressure range may develop in the system.
The valve may open accidentally, and leakage of medium may occur.
– If necessary, include a pressure-relief valve in the media line to comply with
the limit values.
The separation between the media spaces is no longer guaranteed if wear causes
the seal cartridge (tubing) to leak.
– Flow medium may exit at the exhaust port. Prevent possible hazards to per-
sons or material damage with suitable design measures.
– With ducted exhaust air, the flow medium can exit away from the valve. Pre-
vent possible hazards to persons or material damage with suitable design
measures.
If the seal cartridge (shut-off element) leaks, the exhaust port is plugged, or the
ducted exhaust air is plugged, or there is exhaust air in an equalising volume, the
flow medium may enter the operating medium.
– Use an appropriate check valve to protect the pilot circuit against ingress of
the flow medium.
– Check exhaust regularly.
Very high temperatures may damage the seal cartridge.
– Do not weld piping in close proximity to the valve.
Return to Festo
Hazardous substances can endanger the health and safety of personnel and

Tab. 1 Description of key features
4.2 Function
The pinch valve is a pneumatically actuated 2/2-way valve. The valve is closed by
spring force in the normal position (normally closed – NC).
Fig. 2 Switching symbol
If the valve is under operating pressure, the pressure moves the piston and the
return piece against the spring force. The stamps are released from load and can
now be freely moved outward. They are shifted outward by the elasticity of the
shut-off element supported by the pressure of the medium. The flow medium can
flow through the valve. After the operating pressure is removed, the spring moves
the return piece against the stamps and returns them to the initial position. The
valve closes.

5 Transport and storage
• When dispatching used products: comply with all legal requirements for the
handling of hazardous substances and the transport of dangerous goods
è Return to Festo.
• Store the product in a cool, dry, UV-protected and corrosion-protected envir-
onment. Ensure that storage times are kept to a minimum. Storage temperat-
ure 13 Technical data.è
6 Installation
Requirements
– The piping system is unpressurised and it does not contain flowing medium.
– Lines are clean.
– The line ends are mounted.
– Protective measures are installed in the system (e.g.flow control valve or
control valve, check valve, pressure-relief valve).
Cleaning the valve
• Remove all transport packaging. The material used in the packaging has been
specifically chosen for its recyclability.
• Traces of residual grease may be evident on the product due to the produc-
tion process. Clean the valve immediately before installation.
Connecting the media line
NOTICE!
To eliminate direct access to the valve opening during operation, connect a line to
both ports, even if the valve is located at the end of the piping.
For product variants with female thread:
• Screw the valve connections to the line.
Tightening torque Tab. 4è
For product variants with clamp ferrule:
• Place the clamp ferrule of the line and the clamp ferrule of the valve with the
seal against each other and tighten them using the clip of the clamp seal.
Connect the operating medium line
1. Mount the fitting on the operating medium connection.
Max. screw-in depth Tab. 4è
2. Connect the operating medium line.
3. Mount the plug screw on the exhaust port.
Additional steps for ducted exhaust air:
1. Remove the plug screw at the exhaust port.
2. Connect the piping for the ducted exhaust air to the exhaust port.
Max. screw-in depth Tab. 4è
7 Commissioning
Requirements
– Protective measures are installed in the system (e.g.flow control valve or
control valve, check valve, pressure-relief valve).
– The valve is fully mounted and connected.
Checking operating conditions
WARNING!
Risk of injury from hot media under pressure.
Dependent on the medium and the operating conditions, pressure peaks that
exceed the permissible pressure range can develop in the system. The valve can
open accidentally, and medium can exit.
• Do not exceed the maximum permissible medium pressure. In doing so, take
pressure peaks in the system into account.
• Check operating conditions and critical limits 13 Technical data.è
• Check connection points for tightness.
• Check compatibility of the devices in the system for maximum pressure (con-
sider pressure peaks). If necessary, adjust the application parameters.
Commissioning the valve
CAUTION!
Risk of crushing inside the valve.
The shut-off element inside the valve closes with great force. Fingers can be
crushed.
• Do not reach inside the valve.
• Connect a line to both ports, even if the valve is located at the end of a piping
system.
• Only commission the valve once fully assembled.
1. Supply medium.
2. Supply operating pressure to the valve.
ÄThe valve opens.
8 Operation
WARNING!
Risk of injury from hot media under pressure.
If the seal cartridge (shut-off element) leaks, the exhaust port is plugged, or the
ducted exhaust air is plugged, or there is exhaust air in an equalising volume, the
flow medium may enter the operating medium.
• Use only media that will not cause dangerous reactions if mixed.
WARNING!
Risk of injury due to hot surface.
The valve can become hot if the temperature of the medium is high.
• Do not touch the valve during operation or immediately afterward.
• Observe the operating conditions.
• Comply with permissible critical limits.
• Comply with maintenance conditions 9 Maintenance and care.è
Recommendation: switch valve several times per day.
After longer idle times:
• Actuate the valve several times and check that it functions correctly.
9 Maintenance and care
WARNING!
Risk of injury from combustion and chemical burns.
The media in the piping system and the valve can be hot and under pressure.
Traces of medium can remain in the product and can escape when open or dis-
mantled.
• Allow the valve and piping to cool and depressurize them.
• Wear specified protective equipment.
Checking and cleaning the valve
• Check product regularly from the outside for leakage and function.
• Check plug screw and ducted exhaust air for passage. Remove blockages
• Clean product regularly.
• Comply with replacement interval of the spring, guiding band and piston seal:
max. 5million switching cycles.
NOTICE!
Allow for ducted exhaust air when cleaning the outside.
• Replace the plug screw with a threaded insert or connector. Observe the max-
imum permissible screw-in depth.
Checking and replacing the seal cartridge
NOTICE!
Seal cartridge may only be changed by qualified personnel following the assembly
instructions Assembly instructions for seal cartridge.è
The seal cartridge is subjected to mechanical loads and ageing. A damaged or
worn seal cartridge results in leakage.
• Check and replace seals and seal cartridge regularly (intervals depend on the
medium).
• Replace seal cartridge and seals if they are damaged. Use a seal cartridge
with the same specification.
• Comply with replacement interval of the seal cartridge: max. 0.5million
switching cycles.
