Ownerâs Manual
Before using this unit, carefully read the sections entitled: âUSING THE UNIT SAFELYâ and âIMPORTANT NOTESâ (supplied on a separate sheet).
After reading, keep the document(s) where it will be available for immediate reference.
7The BOSS CEB-3 is a chorus unit that is speciîcally designed for electric bass guitar.
7The CEB-3 allows you to select the frequency band to which the chorus eîect will apply. That is, you can have the eîect applied to the overall sound, or only a speciîc frequency range if you wish.
7Using the two channel outputs, deeper chorus eîects can be created with the âSpace synthesis system.â
DC IN jack
Accepts connection of an AC Adaptor (PSA series; sold separately). By using an AC Adaptor, you can play
without being concerned about how much battery power you have left.
* We recommend that you keep batteries installed in the unit even though youâll be powering it with
the AC adaptor. That way, youâll be able to continue a performance even if the cord of the AC adaptor
gets accidentally disconnected from the unit.
* Use only the speciîed AC adaptor (PSA-series).
* If the AC adaptor is connected while power is on, the power supply is drawn
from the AC adaptor.
Panel Descriptions
Main Features
E.LEVEL knob
This knob adjusts the level of the eîect sound (in relation to the input signal).
Rotating the knob clockwise increases the level of the eîect sound.
OUTPUT A (MONO)/OUTPUT B jacks
The output jacks are used to connect the unit to
ampliîers or other devices.
* For mono output, use OUTPUT A jack. Both the dry
and processed signals are output.
* For stereo use:
OUTPUT A :
Only the processed signal (pitch modulated sound) is
output. The dry (unprocessed) signal is not output.
OUTPUT B :
Only the dry signal is output.
The CEB-3 adopts the âSpace synthesis systemâ for stereo output.
That is, the depth of the eîect varies depending on the distance between
speakers. Note that lowering a îlter control knob or eîect level too much
will shift the sound image to the OUTPUT B position, and therefore diminish
the eîect. Experiment with diîerent setting as you play the instrument.
CHECK indicator
This indicator shows whether an eîect is ON/OFF, and doubles as the Battery Check indicator.
The indicator lights when an eîect is ON.
* If this indicator goes dim or no longer lights while an eîect is ON, the battery is near
exhaustion and should be replaced immediately.
LOW FILTER knob
This knob controls the lower frequencies of the eîect sound.
As you rotate the knob clockwise, the chorus eîect will be applied to a wider
range of lower frequencies. Conversely, rotating the knob counterclockwise will
cut lower frequencies, causing only the upper frequencies to take on the chorus
eîect.
Pedal Switch
This switch turns the eîects ON/OFF.
Thumbscrew
When this screw is loosened, the pedal will open, allowing you to change the
battery.
* For instructions on changing the battery, refer to âChanging the Battery.â
RATE (Modulation rate) knob
This knob adjusts the speed of the chorus eîect. Rotating the knob clockwise
increases the speed.
DEPTH (Modulation depth) knob
This knob adjusts the depth of the chorus eîect. Rotating the knob clockwise
deepens the eîect.

Precautions When Connecting
5 To prevent malfunction and equipment failure, always turn
down the volume, and turn oî all the units before making any
connections.
5 Once the connections have been completed, turn on power to
your various devices in the order speciîed. By turning on devices
in the wrong order, you risk causing malfunction and/or damage
to speakers and other devices.
When powering up: Turn on the power to your bass amp last.
When powering down: Turn oî the power to your bass amp îrst.
5 Before turning the unit on/oî, always be sure to turn the volume
down. Even with the volume turned down, you might hear some
sound when switching the unit on/oî. However, this is normal and
does not indicate a malfunction.
Use of Battery
5 A battery is supplied with the unit. The life of this battery may be
limited, however, since its primary purpose was to enable testing.
5 If you handle batteries improperly, you risk explosion and îuid
leakage. Make sure that you carefully observe all of the items
related to batteries that are listed in âUSING THE UNIT SAFELYâ and
âIMPORTANT NOTESâ (supplied on a separate sheet).
5 When operating on battery power only, the unitâs indicator will
become dim when battery power gets too low. Replace the
battery as soon as possible.
5 Batteries should always be installed or replaced before connecting
any other devices. This way, you can prevent malfunction and
damage.
