General Power Tool Safety Warnings
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to follow the
warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term âpower toolâ in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power
tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
1) Work area safety
a) Keep work area clean and well lit.
Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of
flammable liquids, gases or dust
. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the
dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can
cause you to lose control.
2) Electrical safety
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not
use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.
Unmodified plugs and
matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators,
ranges and refrigerators.
There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is
earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
Water entering a power tool
will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the
power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
Damaged
or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for
outdoor use.
Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current
device (RCD) protected supply.
Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
3) Personal safety
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a
power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of
drugs, alcohol or medication.
A moment of inattention while operating power tools
may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.
Protective
equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection
used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before
connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.
Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have
the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on.
A wrench
or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
This enables better
control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing
and gloves away from moving parts.
Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be
caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection
facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used.
Use of dust collection can
reduce dust-related hazards.
4) Power tool use and care
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application.
The
correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
Any power tool
that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the
power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing
power tools.
Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool
accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons
unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool.
Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts,
breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power toolâs
operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use.
Many accidents
are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp
cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc., in accordance with these
instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be
performed.
Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could
result in a hazardous situation.
5) Battery tool use and care
a) Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer.
A charger that is
suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another
battery pack.
b) Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other
battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects like paper
clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can make a
connection from one terminal to another.
Shorting the battery terminals together may
cause burns or a fire.
d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery, avoid contact. If
contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally
seek medical help.
Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
6) Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical
replacement parts.
This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES
âąHold power tools by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where
the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact with a "live" wire will
make exposed metal parts of the tool "live" and shock the operator.
âąAlways use proper eye protection and a respirator when sanding.
âąSanding of lead-based paint is not recommended. See Sanding Lead Based Paint for
additional information before sanding paint.
âąClean your tool out periodically.
WARNING: Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and
other construction activities contains chemicals known to the State of California to
cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these
chemicals are:
âą lead from lead-based paints,
âą crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products, and
âą arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of
work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated area, and
work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masks that are specially
designed to filter out microscopic particles.
âąAvoid prolonged contact with dust from power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling,
and other construction activities. Wear protective clothing and wash exposed areas
with soap and water. Allowing dust to get into your mouth, eyes, or lay on the skin may
promote absorption of harmful chemicals.
WARNING: Use of this tool can generate and/or disperse dust, which may cause
serious and permanent respiratory or other injury. Always use NIOSH/OSHA
approved respiratory protection appropriate for the dust exposure. Direct particles
away from face and body.
WARNING: ALWAYS use safety glasses. Everyday eye glasses are NOT safety
glasses. Also use face or dust mask if cutting operation is dusty. ALWAYS WEAR

Extension Cords
When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your
product will draw. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of
power and overheating. The following table shows the correct size to use depending on cord
length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gage. The smaller the
gage number, the heavier the cord.
Motor
Be sure your power supply agrees with nameplate marking. 120 Volts AC only means your
tool will operate on standard 60 Hz household power. Do not operate AC tools on DC. A
rating of 120 volts AC/DC means that your tool will operate on standard 60 Hz AC or DC
power. This information is printed on the nameplate. Lower voltage will cause loss of power
and can result in over-heating. All Black & Decker tools are factory-tested; if this tool does
not operate, check the power supply.

Sanding
Lead based Paint
Sanding of lead based paint is NOT RECOMMENDED due to the difficulty of controlling the
contaminated dust. The greatest danger of lead poisoning is to children and pregnant
women.
Since it is difficult to identify whether or not a paint contains lead without a chemical
analysis, we recommend the following precautions when sanding any paint:
Personal Safety
âą No children or pregnant women should enter the work area where the paint sanding is
being done until all clean up is completed.
âą A dust mask or respirator should be worn by all persons entering the work area. The filter
should be replaced daily or whenever the wearer has difficulty breathing.
NOTE: Only those dust masks suitable for working with lead paint dust and fumes should
be used. Ordinary painting masks do not offer this protection. See your local hardware
dealer for the proper (NIOSH approved) mask.
âą NO EATING, DRINKING or SMOKING should be done in the work area to prevent
ingesting contaminated paint particles. Workers should wash and clean up BEFORE
eating, drinking or smoking. Articles of food, drink, or smoking should not be left in the work
area where dust would settle on them.
Environmental Safety
âą Paint should be removed in such a manner as to minimize the amount of dust generated.
âą Areas where paint removal is occurring should be sealed with plastic sheeting of 4 mils
thickness.
âą Sanding should be done in a manner to reduce tracking of paint dust outside the work
area.
Cleaning and Disposal
âą All surfaces in the work area should be vacuumed and thoroughly cleaned daily for the
duration of the sanding project. Vacuum filter bags should be changed frequently.
âą Plastic drop cloths should be gathered up and disposed of along with any dust chips or
other removal debris. They should be placed in sealed refuse receptacles and disposed of
through regular trash pick-up procedures. During clean up, children and pregnant women
should be kept away from the immediate work area.
âą All toys, washable furniture and utensils used by children should be washed thoroughly
before being used again.
Assembly
Warning: Before assembly, make sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged.
Random orbit sanding base
With this sanding base, you can use the tool as a random orbit sander.
Fitting and removing the sanding base (fig. B)
- Place the sanding base (3) onto the spindle (10).
- Place the washer (7) onto the spindle.
- Insert the Allen screw (8) into the screw hole in the spindle.
- Tighten the Allen screw using the Allen key (9) supplied.
- To remove the sanding base, remove the Allen screw (8) and washer (7).
Fitting sanding sheets (fig. C)
- Hold the tool with the sanding base (3) facing upwards.
- Place the sanding sheet (11) onto the sanding base (3). The holes in the sheet do not need
to line up with the holes in the base.
Large detail sanding base
With this sanding base, you can use the tool as a detail sander or an orbital sander.
Fitting and removing the sanding base (fig. D & E)
For detail sanding, the pointed end should face forward as in fig. D. For sanding large areas,
the pointed end should face to the back as in fig. E.
- Place the sanding base (12) onto the spindle (10). Make sure that the legs of the base
locate into the tool.
- Place the washer (7) onto the spindle.
- Insert the Allen screw (8) into the screw hole in the spindle.
- Tighten the Allen screw using the Allen key (9) supplied.
- To remove the sanding base, remove the Allen screw (8) and washer (7).
Fitting sanding sheets (fig. F)
- Detach the two diamond-shaped tips (13) from the sanding sheet (14).
- Hold the tool with the sanding base facing upwards.
- Place the sanding sheet (14) onto the sanding base, making sure that the holes in the sheet
line up with the holes in the base.
The diamond-shaped tip (13) can be reversed and replaced when worn.
- When the front part of the tip is worn, detach it from the sheet, reverse it and press it onto
the sanding base again.
- When the whole tip is worn, remove it from the sanding base and fit a new tip.
Tip of the sanding base (fig. G)
When the sanding base tip (5) or tip holder (16) is worn, it can be reversed or replaced.
- Remove the screw (15).
- Reverse or replace the worn part.
- Fit and tighten the screw.
Finger attachment (fig. H)
The finger attachment is used for fine detail sanding.
- Remove the screw (15).
- Remove the diamond-shaped tip holder (5) from the sanding base.
- Fit the finger attachment (6) onto the sanding base.
- Fit and tighten the screw.
- Fit the appropriate sanding sheet (17) onto the finger attachment.
Operation
Let the tool work at its own pace. Do not overload.
Warning: Do not cover the ventilation slots when using the tool. Hold the tool as shown in
fig. L & M. Make sure that the sanding base is flat on the workpiece.
Switching on and off (fig. I)
- To switch the tool on, set the on/off switch (1) to position I.
- To switch the tool off, set the on/off switch to position O.
Automatic brake system (ABS)
This tool has an automatic brake system. When the tool is not on the work surface, this
feature keeps the speed of the disc below the speed of the motor. When the tool is switched
off, the disc will stop very quickly.
Dust Collection
WARNING: Collected sanding dust from sanding surface coatings (polyurethane, linseed
oil, etc.) can self-ignite in sander dust canister or elsewhere and cause fire. To reduce risk,
empty canister frequently and strictly follow sander manual and coating manufacturer's
instructions.
CAUTION: When working on metal surfaces, do not use the dust canister or a vacuum
cleaner because sparks are generated. Wear safety glasses and a dustmask. Due to the
danger of fire, do not use your sander to sand magnesium surfaces. Do not use for wet
sanding.
Emptying the dust canister (fig. J )
The dust canister should be emptied every 10 minutes of use.
- Remove the cover (18) by twisting it counterclockwise and pulling it straight off.
- Hold the sander with the filter (19) facing down and shake the canister to empty the
contents. Shake the cover to empty the contents.
- Refit the cover (18) onto the dust canister, twisting it clockwise until it locks into place.
Cleaning the dust canister filter (fig. K)
The dust canister filter prevents dust and dirt from entering the motor housing. The filter is
re-usable and should be cleaned regularly.
- Empty the dust canister (2) as described above.
- Pull the filter (19) off the dust canister.
- Shake off excess dust by tapping the filter into a wastebasket.
Warning: Do not brush or use compressed air to clean the filter. Do not wash the inside of
the filter.
- Replace the filter.
- Refit the cover.
- Refit the dust canister onto the tool.
Hints for optimum use
- For user comfort, the tool can be operated with two hands or one ( ). Do notfigs. L & M
place your hands over the ventilation slots.
- Do not exert too much pressure on the tool.
- Regularly check the condition of the sanding sheet. Replace when necessary.
- Always sand with the grain of the wood.
- When sanding new layers of paint before applying another layer, use extra fine grit.
- On very uneven surfaces, or when removing layers of paint, start with a coarse grit. On
other surfaces, start with a medium grit. In both cases, gradually change to a fine grit for a
smooth finish.

Maintenance
Your tool has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of
maintenance.
If the replacement of the supply cord is necessary, this has to be done by the manufacturer or
his agent in order to avoid a safety hazard.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.
- Clear the cooling vents and slots with a clean, dry paint brush.
- Clean the housing with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use solvents.

Recommended accessories for use with your tool are available at extra cost from your local
dealer or authorized service center. If you need assistance in locating any accessory for your

or workmanship. The defective product will be replaced or repaired at no charge in either of
two ways.
The first, which will result in exchanges only, is to return the product to the retailer from whom
it was purchased (provided that the store is a participating retailer). Returns should be made
within the time period of the retailerâs policy for exchanges (usually 30 to 90 days after the
sale). Proof of purchase may be required. Please check with the retailer for their specific
return policy regarding returns that are beyond the time set for exchanges.
The second option is to take or send the product (prepaid) to a Black & Decker owned or
authorized Service Center for repair or replacement at our option. Proof of purchase may be

Avertissements de sécurité généraux pour les outils
Ă©lectriques
AVERTISSEMENT! Lire tous les avertissements de sécurité et toutes les
directives. Le non-respect des avertissements et des directives pourrait se solder
par un choc Ă©lectrique, un incendie et/ou une blessure grave.
Conserver tous les avertissements et toutes les directives pour un usage
ultérieur.
Le terme «outil électrique» cité dans les avertissements se rapporte à votre outil
Ă©lectrique Ă alimentation sur secteur (avec fil) ou par piles (sans fil).
1) Sécurité du lieu de travail
a) Tenir la zone de travail propre et bien éclairée.
Les endroits sombres sont souvent
des causes d'accidents.
b) Ne pas faire fonctionner dâoutils Ă©lectriques dans un milieu dĂ©flagrant, soit en
présence de liquides inflammables, de gaz ou de poussiÚre.
Les outils
Ă©lectriques produisent des Ă©tincelles qui peuvent enflammer la poussiĂšre ou les
vapeurs.
c) Ăloigner les enfants et les curieux au moment dâutiliser un outil Ă©lectrique.
Une
distraction pourrait vous en faire perdre la maĂźtrise.
2) SĂ©curitĂ© en matiĂšre dâĂ©lectricitĂ©
a) Les fiches des outils Ă©lectriques doivent correspondre Ă la prise. Ne jamais
modifier la fiche en aucune façon.
Ne jamais utiliser de fiche dâadaptation avec un
outil Ă©lectrique mis Ă la terre. Le risque de choc Ă©lectrique sera rĂ©duit par lâutilisation de
fiches non modifiées correspondant à la prise.
b) Ăviter tout contact physique avec des surfaces mises Ă la terre comme des
tuyaux, des radiateurs, des cuisiniÚres et des réfrigérateurs.
Le risque de choc
électrique est plus élevé si votre corps est mis à la terre.
c) Ne pas exposer les outils Ă©lectriques Ă la pluie ou Ă d'autres conditions oĂč il
pourrait ĂȘtre mouillĂ©.
La pĂ©nĂ©tration de lâeau dans un outil Ă©lectrique augmente le
risque de choc Ă©lectrique.
d) Ne pas utiliser abusivement le cordon dâalimentation. Ne jamais utiliser le
cordon pour transporter, tirer ou débrancher un outil électrique. Tenir le cordon
Ă©loignĂ© de la chaleur, de lâhuile, des bords tranchants ou des piĂšces mobiles.
Les
cordons endommagĂ©s ou emmĂȘlĂ©s augmentent les risques de choc Ă©lectrique.
e) Pour lâutilisation dâun outil Ă©lectrique Ă lâextĂ©rieur, se servir dâune rallonge
convenant Ă une telle utilisation.
Lâutilisation dâune rallonge conçue pour lâextĂ©rieur
réduit les risques de choc électrique.
f) Sâil est impossible dâĂ©viter lâutilisation dâun outil Ă©lectrique dans un endroit
humide, utiliser une source dâalimentation dotĂ©e dâun disjoncteur de fuite Ă la
terre.
Lâutilisation de ce type de disjoncteur rĂ©duit les risques de choc Ă©lectrique.
3) Sécurité personnelle
a) Ătre vigilant, surveiller le travail effectuĂ© et faire preuve de jugement lorsquâun
outil Ă©lectrique est utilisĂ©. Ne pas utiliser dâoutil Ă©lectrique en cas de fatigue ou
sous lâinfluence de drogues, dâalcool ou de mĂ©dicaments.
Un simple moment
dâinattention en utilisant un outil Ă©lectrique peut entraĂźner des blessures corporelles
graves.
b) Utiliser des Ă©quipements de protection individuelle. Toujours porter une
protection oculaire.
Lâutilisation dâĂ©quipements de protection comme un masque
antipoussiÚre, des chaussures antidérapantes, un casque de sécurité ou des
protecteurs auditifs lorsque la situation le requiert réduira les risques de blessures
corporelles.
c) EmpĂȘcher les dĂ©marrages intempestifs. Sâassurer que lâinterrupteur se trouve Ă
la position dâarrĂȘt avant de relier lâoutil Ă une source dâalimentation et/ou
dâinsĂ©rer un bloc-piles, de ramasser ou de transporter lâoutil.
Transporter un outil
Ă©lectrique alors que le doigt repose sur lâinterrupteur ou brancher un outil Ă©lectrique
dont lâinterrupteur est Ă la position de marche risque de provoquer un accident.
d) Retirer toute clĂ© de rĂ©glage ou clĂ© standard avant de dĂ©marrer lâoutil.
Une clé
standard ou une clé de réglage attachée à une partie pivotante peut causer des blessures.
e) Ne pas trop tendre les bras. Conserver son Ă©quilibre en tout temps.
Cela permet
de mieux maĂźtriser lâoutil Ă©lectrique dans les situations imprĂ©vues.
f) Sâhabiller de maniĂšre appropriĂ©e. Ne pas porter de vĂȘtements amples ni de
bijoux. Garder les cheveux, les vĂȘtements et les gants Ă lâĂ©cart des piĂšces
mobiles.
Les vĂȘtements amples, les bijoux ou les cheveux longs risquent de rester
coincés dans les piÚces mobiles.
g) Si des composants sont fournis pour le raccordement de dispositifs de
dĂ©poussiĂ©rage et de ramassage, sâassurer que ceux-ci sont bien raccordĂ©s et
utilisés.
Lâutilisation dâun dispositif de dĂ©poussiĂ©rage peut rĂ©duire les dangers
engendrés par les poussiÚres.
4) Utilisation et entretien dâun outil Ă©lectrique
a) Ne pas forcer un outil Ă©lectrique. Utiliser lâoutil Ă©lectrique appropriĂ© Ă
lâapplication.
Lâoutil Ă©lectrique appropriĂ© effectuera un meilleur travail, de façon plus
sûre et à la vitesse pour laquelle il a été conçu.
b) Ne pas utiliser un outil Ă©lectrique dont lâinterrupteur est dĂ©fectueux.
Tout outil
Ă©lectrique dont lâinterrupteur est dĂ©fectueux est dangereux et doit ĂȘtre rĂ©parĂ©.
c) DĂ©brancher la fiche du secteur ou le bloc-piles de lâoutil Ă©lectrique avant de faire
tout rĂ©glage ou changement dâaccessoire, ou avant de ranger lâoutil
Ă©lectrique.
Ces mesures préventives réduisent les risques de démarrage accidentel de
lâoutil Ă©lectrique.
d) Ranger les outils Ă©lectriques hors de la portĂ©e des enfants, et ne permettre Ă
aucune personne nâĂ©tant pas familiĂšre avec un outil Ă©lectrique (ou son manuel
dâinstruction) dâutiliser ce dernier
. Les outils Ă©lectriques deviennent dangereux entre
les mains dâutilisateurs inexpĂ©rimentĂ©s.
e) Entretenir les outils Ă©lectriques. VĂ©rifier les piĂšces mobiles pour sâassurer
quâelles sont bien alignĂ©es et tournent librement, quâelles sont en bon Ă©tat et ne
sont affectées par aucun trouble susceptible de nuire au bon
fonctionnement de lâoutil Ă©lectrique
.
En cas de dommage, faire rĂ©parer lâoutil
Ă©lectrique avant toute nouvelle utilisation.
Beaucoup dâaccidents sont causĂ©s par
des outils Ă©lectriques mal entretenus.
f) Sâassurer que les outils de coupe sont aiguisĂ©s et propres.
Les outils de coupe
bien entretenus et affûtés sont moins susceptibles de se coincer et sont plus faciles
Ă contrĂŽler.
g) Utiliser lâoutil Ă©lectrique, les accessoires, les forets, etc. conformĂ©ment aux
prĂ©sentes directives en tenant compte des conditions de travail et du travail Ă
effectuer.
Lâutilisation dâun outil Ă©lectrique pour toute opĂ©ration autre que celle pour
laquelle il a été conçu est dangereuse.
5) Utilisation et entretien du bloc-piles
a) Ne recharger lâoutil quâau moyen du chargeur prĂ©cisĂ© par le fabricant.
Lâutilisation
dâun chargeur qui convient Ă un type de bloc-piles risque de provoquer un incendie sâil
est utilisé avec un autre type de bloc-piles.
b) Utiliser les outils électriques uniquement avec les blocs-piles conçus à cet effet.
Lâutilisation de tout autre bloc-piles risque de causer des blessures ou un incendie.
c) Lorsque le bloc-piles nâest pas utilisĂ©, le tenir Ă©loignĂ© des objets mĂ©talliques,
notamment des trombones, de la monnaie, des clés, des clous, des vis, etc., qui
peuvent Ă©tablir une connexion entre les deux bornes.
Le court-circuit des bornes du
bloc-piles risque de provoquer des étincelles, des brûlures ou un incendie.
d) En cas dâutilisation abusive, le liquide peut gicler hors du bloc-piles, Ă©viter tout
contact. Si un contact accidentel se produit, laver Ă grande eau. Si le liquide entre
en contact avec les yeux, obtenir des soins médicaux.
Le liquide qui gicle hors du
bloc-piles peut provoquer des irritations ou des brûlures.
6) RĂ©paration
a) Faire rĂ©parer lâoutil Ă©lectrique par un rĂ©parateur professionnel en nâutilisant que
des piĂšces de rechange identiques
. Cela permettra de maintenir une utilisation
sĂ©curitaire de lâoutil Ă©lectrique.
RĂGLES DE SĂCURITĂ SPĂCIFIQUES
âąSaisir lâoutil par ses surfaces de prises isolĂ©es lorsque lâoutil peut entrer enĂ©lectrique
contact avec des fils cachés ou son cordon. En cas de contact avec un fil sous tension,
les piĂšces mĂ©talliques de lâoutil seront sous tension et lâutilisateur subira des secousses
Ă©lectriques.
