SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

1. Read instrucons - All the safety and operang instrucons should be read before

the product is operated.

2. Retain instrucons - The safety and operang instrucons should be retained for

future reference.

3. Heed Warnings - All warnings on the product and in the operang instrucons

should be adhered to.

4. Follow Instrucons - All operating and use instrucons should be followed.

5. Cleaning - Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use

liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.

6. Aachments - Do not use aachments not recommended by the product

manufacturer as they may cause hazards.

7. Water and Moisture - Do not use this product near water- example, near a bath for

tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub; in a wet basement; or near a swimming

pool; and the like.

8. Accessories - Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket,

or table. The product may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult and serious

damage to the product. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table

recommended by the manufacturer, or sold with the product. Any mounng of the

product should follow the manufacturer’s instrucons, and should use a mounng

accessory recommended by the manufacturer.

9. Cart - A product and cart combinaon should be moved with care.

Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the

product and cart combinaon to overturn.

10. Venlaon - slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for

venlation to ensure reliable operaon of the product and to protect it from

overheang. These openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should

never be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface.

This product should not be placed in a built-in installaon such as a bookcase or rack

unless proper venlaon is provided or the manufacturer’s instrucons have been

adhered to.

11. Power Sources - This product should be operated only from the type of power

source indicated on the marking label and connected to a MAINS socket outlet with a

protecve earthing connecon. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your

home, consult your product dealer or local power company.

12. Power-Cord Protecon - Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not

likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying

parcular aenon to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where

they exit from the product.

13. Mains Plug - Where the mains plug or an appliance coupler is used as the

disconnect device, the disconnect device shall remain readily operable.

14. Lightning - For added protecon for this product during a lightning storm, or when

it is le unaended and unused for long periods of me, unplug it from the wall outlet

and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the product

due to lightning and power-line surges.

15. Ove oadingrl - Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral

convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of re or electric shock.

16. Flame Sources - No naked ame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed

on the product.

17. Object and Liquid Entry - Never push objects of any kind into this product through

openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could

result in a re or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.

18. Loudspeakers - Excessive sound pressure from loudspeakers can cause hearing

loss.

19. Damage Requiring Service - Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer

servicing to qualied service personnel under the following condions:

a. When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged.

b. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product.

c. If the product has been exposed to rain or water.

d. If the product does not operate normally by following the operang instrucons.

Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operang instrucons as an

improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will oen require

extensive work by a qualied technician to restore the product to its normal operaon.

e. If the product has been dropped or damaged in any way.

f. When the product exhibits a disnct change in performance-this indicates a need for

service.

20. Replacement Parts - When replacement parts are required, be sure the service

technician has used replacement parts specied by the manufacturer or have the same

characteriscs as the original part. Unauthorized substuons may result in re,

electric shock, or other hazards.

21. Safety Check - Upon compleon of any service or repairs to this product, ask the

service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the product is in proper

operang condion.

WARNING

The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol, within an equilateral triangle, is

intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated “dangerous

voltage” within the product’s enclosure that may be of sucient

magnitude to constute a risk of electric shock to persons

WARNING

To reduce the risk of re or electric shock, do not expose this apparatus to rain or

The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and that no objects lled

with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on apparatus.

Mains plug is used as disconnect device and it should remain readily operable during

intended use. In order to disconnect the apparatus from the mains completely, the

mains plug should be disconnected from the mains socket outlet completely.

Baery shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, re or the like.

CAUTION

An appliance with a protecve earth terminal should be connected to a mains outlet

with a protecve earth connecon.

NOTES ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

At the end of its useful life, this product must not be disposed of with regular

household waste but must be returned to a collecon point for the recycling of

Placement (SL-5M bookshelf speakers)

For le and right channels, place the speakers so that the tweeters

are at ear level (i.e., normal seated posion) and are on either side

of the video receiver or monitor. You can place the speakers on

bookshelves or use speaker stands For use as a rear channel .

surround speaker, avoid corners of the room.

Placement (SL- , SL-25C center channel speakers) 45C

The Center Channel Speaker should be in the middle between the

front le and right main speakers and face toward the

viewing/listening area. The tweeter should be at ear level (i.e.,

normal seated posion).

Placement (SL-8, SL-28, SL-12, SL-15 oor standing speakers)

For le and right front channels, place the speakers so they are equal distance from each other and the ideal

listening posion (see illustraon) The tweeter should be at ear level (i.e., normal seated posion). .

Notes:

• Do not place any objects of any type, such as television displays or decorave items, on any Cerwin-

Vega! speakers. The objects may be at risk of damage and can aect the natural sound.

• Keep the path from the speakers to the listening area free from obstrucons (e.g., furniture, poed

plants, etc.).

• If the room is “live” (e.g., plaster walls, wood oors, glass windows, etc.) and produces echoes, try

closing the drapes, adding a throw rug, or consider using sound-absorbing panels.

• can produce intense low frequencies, so don’t be surprised to inially hear Cerwin-Vega! products

rales and buzzes coming from furniture and other objects; try reposioning or removing oending

suspects (e.g., vase on mantle) or placing felt pads under vibrang items.

 If the bass is too prominent, try moving the speakers away from the walls. If you need more bass,

move the speakers closer to the rear walls. For good stereo imaging, keep the speakers about 1-1/2

feet (45 cm) away from the sidewalls and 1 foot (30 cm) out from the rear wall and about 6 feet (2

meters) from each other.

Wiring the System: All SL Series passive speakers feature a exible 5-way binding posts to support connecons

using bare wires (most popular method), split spade lug connectors, pin connectors, banana plugs and dual

banana plugs *(SL-12 and SL-15 models are not compable with standard dual banana plugs).

Important: All equipment (A/V receiver, preamplier

and/or amplier) should be powered ‘OFF’ and the

manual should be read prior to making any speaker

connecons.

Note: Typical speaker connecons use a minimum 16-

AWG gauge speaker wire. Speaker wire is two conductor

mul-strand wire housed inside insulaon. One of the

conductors is usually marked with a striped line that is

considered the posive (+) connecon.

Connecng the System:

STEP 1: Determine the type of speaker wire connecon that

will be made. The most common connecon is using bare

wire. Strip 1/2” to 5/8” (12 to 15mm) of insulaon from the

ends of the speaker cable to expose the bare wire; then twist

the bare wires ghtly.

STEP 2: Unscrew the binding-post cover to expose a hole in

the metal post. Insert the bare wire or pin connector into the

hole nong that the posive terminal on the speaker connects

to the posive terminal on the amplier. The negave

terminal on the speaker connects to the negave terminal on

the amplier. For split spade lug connecons, simply place the

‘U’ shape against the metal post. For banana plugs, do not

unscrew the binding post cover; remove the plasc cover and

simply insert into the top of the posts.

STEP 3: Screw the binding-post cover so that the connecon is

securely touching the metal post and will not fall out.

Important: Failure to observe correct polarity will result in

poor sound balance, decreased imaging and worst of all,

decreased bass response.

The placement of the SL-10S subwoofer can greatly aect the sound

that is produces. In general, a good bass sound can be obtained by

installing the subwoofer in a front corner, or at one-third the width of

the wall, as shown. Experiment with dierent posions to nd your

listening preference.

Wiring the System: The SL- S Subwoofer features a wide variety of inputs to support all dierent types of 10

audio equipment. The most popular types of subwoofer connecons are listed below. Determine the

connecon and obtain the correct signal cable. Choose one opon only for hook-up. Do not hook up more

than one opon.

Connecng the System:

STEP 1: Make one of the connecons as shown above. Power on the main A/V receiver or preamplier as well

as the - S subwoofer. Select a song or movie to play through the audio system. It would be best to use SL 10

media that will take advantage of the low-frequency sounds such as an acon pack movie or bass-heavy ed

genre of music (drums and beats) As a starng point, set the Low Pass Freq. knob to 80 Hz. .

STEP 2: When audio is being produced on the main speakers, set the master volume to a desired level. Slowly

adjust the SL- S subwoofer volume knob to your desired level. The Low Pass Freq. knob can be adjusted if 10

you feel something is missing. For example, smaller size main speakers (8” or smaller) may require the

subwoofer Low Pass Freq. knob to be set at a higher freqeuency to compensate for the small speaker’s

inability to reproduce a desired low frequency sound. The opposite would apply for larger size main speakers

(10” or greater). Note: The LFE input contains a preset tered signal and does not require any adjustment to

the Low Pass Freq. knob.

1. LFE IN: Mono “low frequency eects” connecon. Use

this input if receiver preamp/processor has a dedicated

LFE or subwoofer OUT. Refer to the owner’s manual

provided by your receiver/preamp/processor

manufacturer. (see gure 1, back cover for hook- up)

2. LINE IN: -Stereo input to subwoofer. Connect to “LINE

OUT”, “MAIN OUT”, of your -OUT or PREAMP-

receiver/preamp/processor using a dual RCA patchcord

(not supplied). Refer to the owner’s manual provided

by your receiver/ preamp/processor manufacturer.

3. VOLUME CONTROL: Controls volume level of

subwoofer. Used to balance the output of the

subwoofer with the main speaker output.

4. LOW-PASS FREQ: The crossover control allows you to

adjust the upper limit of the subwoofer’s frequency

response from 50 to 13 s response 0 Hz. The subwoofer’

will begin rolling o above the set frequency. Set the LOW-PASS FREQ to the low frequency limit listed in

the main speaker manual and consult the A/V receiver manual to determine if there are any

recommendaons (as some may already feature a built-in crossover).* (NOTE: LOW-PASS FREQ control

does not funcon when the LFE input is used.)

5. PHASE: This switch allows you to compensate for having the subwoofer in a dierent locaon than the

main speakers. This control allows the signal to be phase adjusted 180 degrees so the output of the

subwoofer will match the phase of the main speakers. Engage At the listening the PHASE switch to “180”.

6. STANDBY LED: Indicator of automac standby state. The LED will be ‘GREEN’ when the audio signal is

present and the subwoofer is on. The LED will be ‘RED’ when the subwoofer is in standby condion (no

audio signal present aer approximately 30 minutes.

7. VOLTAGE SELECTION: User-switchable voltage selecon for use with 110-120V/220-240V AC. To select a

dierent voltage, use a flat head screwdriver to reposition the switch to the desired voltage and change

the fuse to the appropriate rang. Severe damage may result from improperly selected WARNING:

voltage. Make sure you know the voltage requirement of the country you are in before aempng to

connect this subwoofer to AC power.

8. POWER: Two- automacally posion power switch. In the “ON” mode, the subwoofer’s amplier is

acvated if an audio signal is present and will automacally become inacve when there is no audio signal

present aer approximately 30 minutes. In the “OFF” mode, power is shut o to the amplier.

9. POWER CORD RECEPTACLE: Connect IEC cord to this receptacle (supplied with the subwoofer). If the SL

cord supplied does not t an available AC outlet, purchase the correct AC cord from your audio dealer or

an electrical supply store. Protects system from ove oad, replace with fuse rang as REPLACEABLE FUSE: rl

indicated on amplier panel at fuse locaon. The fuse holder is located at the AC receptacle.

d'un lavabo, d'un évier, d'une piscine, d'une machine à laver, dans un sous-sol humide.

8. Accessoires - Evitez de placer l'appareil sur un chariot, support, trépied, étagère ou table

instable. L'appareil pourrait tomber et causer de graves blessures à des enfants ou

adultes tout en endommageant l'appareil même. Ulisez uniquement des chariots,

supports, trépieds, étagères ou tables recommandés par le fabricant ou en vente avec

l'appareil. L'installation de l'appareil doit être réalisée selon les instructions du fabricant et

les accessoires utilisés doivent être ceux recommandés par ce dernier.

9. Chariot - Déplacez le chariot et l'appareil avec beaucoup de précauon.

Un arrêt brusque, des mouvements violents ou des surfaces accidentées

peuvent faire renverser le produit et le chariot.

10. Ventilation - Les fentes et orices dans le boîer sont prévues

pour la ventilation an d'assurer un fonconnement fiable de l'appareil et de le protéger

contre toute surchaue. Ces ouvertures ne doivent jamais être obstruées ou couvertes.

Les ouvertures ne doivent en aucun cas être obstruées en plaçant par exemple l'appareil

sur un lit, canapé, tapis ou une surface similaire. Cet appareil ne doit pas être placé dans

des endroits connés tels que des bibliothèques ou étagères à moins d'assurer une

venlaon adéquate ou avoir suivi les instrucons du fabricant.

11. Sources d'alimentaon - Cet appareil ne doit être ulisé qu'avec le type de

source d'alimentation indiquée sur sa plaque signaléque et branché à une prise secteur

mise à la terre. Consultez votre revendeur ou votre compagnie d'électricité si vous ignorez

les caractérisques de votre installaon électrique.

12. Protecon des câbles électriques - Les câbles électriques doivent être disposés

de manière à ce qu'ils ne soient pas piétinés ou écrasés par les objets placés dessus ou

contre eux, tout en faisant parculièrement aenon aux fiches, prises et points de sore

de l'appareil.

13. Fiche secteur - Lorsque la che d'alimentaon ou la prise mulple est ulisée

comme dispositif de débranchement de l'appareil, elle doit rester facilement accessible.

14. Foudre - Par mesure de protecon supplémentaire, lors d'orages ou de longues

périodes d'inulisation, débranchez l'appareil de la prise secteur ainsi que l'antenne ou le

système de câblodistribution. Cette mesure permet de protéger l'appareil de la foudre et

des surtensions des lignes électriques.

15. Surcharge - Evitez de surcharger les prises secteur, les rallonges électriques et

les prises auxiliaires intégrées à l'appareil car cela peut provoquer un incendie ou un choc

électrique.

16. Sources de flamme - Aucune source de amme nue, telle que des bougies

allumées, ne doit être placée au dessus de l'appareil.

17. Pénétration de liquide ou d'objets - N'insérez pas d'objets dans les ouvertures

de l'appareil ; ils pourraient entrer en contact avec des points de tension ou court-circuiter

des composants pouvant causer des incendies ou des chocs électriques. Ne renversez

aucun liquide sur l'appareil.

18. Haut-parleurs - une pression sonore excessive des haut-parleurs peuvent

entraîner une perte audive.

19. Dommage nécessitant une intervention - Débranchez l'appareil de la prise

secteur et le coner à un technicien qualié dans les condions suivants :

a. Lorsque le cordon d'alimentaon ou sa che est endommagée.

b. Lorsqu'un liquide a été renversé sur l'appareil ou des objets se sont introduits à l'intérieur.

c. Lorsque l'appareil a été exposé à la pluie ou à l'eau.

d. Si l'appareil ne fonctionne pas normalement même en respectant les instrucons du guide

d'ulisation. L'ulisateur doit se limiter aux réglages indiqués dans le guide d'utilisation ;

tout autre réglage inapproprié risque de provoquer des dommages qui nécessiteront de

longues intervenons de technicien qualifié pour rétablir le fonctionnement normal de

l'appareil.

e. Si l'appareil est tombé ou a été endommagé d'une manière ou d'une autre.

f. Dès que l'appareil montre des signes de dégradaon de performance ; cela indique une

nécessité de réparaon.

20. Pièces de rechange - S'il est nécessaire de changer des pièces, assurez-vous que le

technicien ulise des pièces recommandées par le fabricant ou présentant les mêmes

caractérisques que les pièces d'origine. L'usage de pièces non agréées pourrait causer

un incendie, un choc électrique ou d'autres dangers.

21. Contrôle de sécurité - Suite à tout opération d'entreen et de réparation,

demandez au technicien de procéder à un contrôle de sécurité an de s'assurer que

l'appareil est en bon état de fonconnement.

AVERTISSEMENT

Le symbole de l'éclair à l'intérieur d'un triangle équilatéral, est destiné à alerter

l'ulisateur de la présence de pièces sous tension non isolées dans le boîtier de

l'appareil, d'une magnitude pouvant constuer un risque d'électrocution.

Le symbole du point d'exclamaon, dans un triangle équilatéral, sert à averr

l'ulisateur que d'importants conseils d'utilisation et de maintenance (entreen)

sont fournis dans ce manuel de l'utilisateur.

L'APPAREIL DOIT ETRE BRANCHE SUR UNE PRISE MISE A LA TERRE.

MISE EN GARDE CONCERNANT L'EMPLACEMENT

Pour maintenir une bonne ventilation, veillez à laisser un espace autour de l'appareil (à partir

de plus grandes dimensions protubérantes y compris les projections) supérieure ou égale à

celle indiquée ci-dessous.

Face supérieure, inférieure, avant, arrière, gauche, droite : 10 cm

ATTENTION

Tout changement ou toute modicaon non expressément approuvé par la pare

responsable de la conformité de KRK SYSTEMS pourrait annuler l'autorisaon accordée à

l'usager d'uliser cet appareil.

ATTENTION

Pour éviter tout choc électrique, introduisez la lame la plus large de la che dans la borne

correspondante de la prise et insérez complètement.

ATTENTION

La plaque des marquages et des caractéristiques se trouve à l'arrière de l'appareil.

AVERTISSEMENT

An de réduire les risques d'incendie ou de choc électrique, n'exposez pas cet appareil à la

pluie et à l'humidité.

L'appareil ne doit pas être exposé au ruissellement ni à la projection d'eau et aucun objet

contenant un liquide, tel qu'un vase, ne doit être posé dessus.

La prise secteur est utilisée comme dispositif de débranchement de l'appareil, elle doit rester

facilement accessible durant l'utilisaon. Pour débrancher complètement l'appareil du

secteur, la che de courant doit être entièrement rerée de la prise secteur.

La baerie ne doit pas être exposée à une chaleur excessive telle que rayons du soleil, feu

etc.

ATTENTION

Un appareil protégé par une borne de terre doit être branché à une prise de courant mise à

la terre.

REMARQUES SUR LA PROTECTION DE L'ENVIRONNEMENT

Au terme de sa cycle de vie, ce produit ne doit pas être jeté avec les déchets ménagers

ordinaires mais déposé dans un point de collecte pour le recyclage des équipements

Emplacement (enceintes de bibliothèque SL-5M)

Pour les canaux gauche et droit, placez les enceintes de manière que

les tweeters soient au niveau des oreilles (c.-à-d. la posion de

quelqu'un assis) et de part et d'autre du récepteur ou du moniteur

vidéo. Vous pouvez placer les enceintes sur des étagères ou des

supports pour enceintes. Evitez les coins de la pièce, lorsque vous

l'ulisez comme enceinte surround arrière.

Emplacement (enceintes centrales SL-45C, SL-25C)

L'enceinte centrale doit être au milieu entre les enceintes principales

gauche et droite et face à la zone de visualisaon/d'écoute. Le tweeter

doit être au niveau des oreilles (c.-à-d. posion de quelqu'un assis).

Emplacement (enceintes de sol SL-8, SL-28, SL-12, SL- 15)

Pour les canaux avant gauche et droit, placez les enceintes de manière qu'elles soient à égale distance les unes

des autres et de la posion d'écoute idéale (voir illustraon). Le tweeter doit être au niveau des oreilles (c.-à-

d. posion de quelqu'un assis).

Remarques :

• Ne placez aucun objet, tels que des écrans télé ou objets décorafs, sur aucune enceinte Cerwin-Vega!. De

tels objets peuvent risquent d'endommager les enceintes aecter le son naturel.

• Ne placez aucun objet (ex. meubles, plantes en pot etc.) pouvant faire obstrucon entre les enceintes à la

zone d'écoute.

• Si la pièce comporte des éléments "vivants" (ex. murs de plâtre, planchers de bois, fenêtres en verre etc.)

qui produisent des échos, essayez de fermer les rideaux, d'ajouter des tapis ou d'uliser des panneaux

insonorisants.

• Les produits Cerwin-Vega! peuvent produire des basses fréquences intenses, ne soyez donc pas surpris

d'entendre des bruits et sons provenant des meubles et d'autres objets ; essayez de changer l'emplacement

des objets suspects ou de les rerer (ex. vases sur cheminée) ou de placer des coussins de feutre sous les

éléments vibrants.

 Si les graves sont trop fortes, essayez d'éloigner les enceintes des murs. Rapprochez les enceintes des parois

arrière si vous souhaitez renforcez les graves. Pour obtenir une image stéréo opmales, les enceintes

doivent être à environ 45 cm (1-1/2 pied) des parois latérales et à 30 cm (1 pied) de la paroi arrière et à

environ 2 mètres (6 pieds) l'une de l'autre.

Câblage du système : Toutes les enceintes passives de la série SL sont dotées de bornes de connexion à 5

ports exibles ulisables à ls nus (la méthode la plus ordinaire), des cosses à fourche, des connecteurs à

broches, des ches bananes et des fourches *(les modèles SL-12 et SL-15 sont pas compable avec les ches

banane doubles standard).

Important : Tous les équipements (récepteurs A/V,

préamplis et/ou amplis) doivent être sur "OFF", et le

manuel doit être lu avant d'eectuer les connexions des

enceintes.

Remarque : Les raccordements typiques des enceintes

ulisent des câbles d'enceinte de calibre 16 AWG

minimum. Un câble d'enceinte est composé de deux

conducteurs à ls mulbrins isolés individuellement. L'un

des conducteurs est généralement marqué par des

rayures ; c'est le conducteur posif (+).

Connexion du système :

ÉTAPE 1 : Déterminer le type de câbles d'enceinte à uliser

pour la connexion. Les connexions les plus courantes ulisent

des fils nus. Dénudez 12 à 15 mm (1/2" à 5/8")d'isolant des

extrémités des câbles d'enceinte pour exposer les

conducteurs, puis tordez les brins dénudés.

ÉTAPE 2 : Dévissez le couvercle d'une borne de connexion

pour exposer le trou de la borne métallique. Insérez le l

dénudé ou le connecteur à broche dans le trou en veillant à ce

que la borne posive de l'enceinte se connecte à la borne

posive de l'ampli. La borne négave de l'enceinte se

connecte à la borne négave de l'ampli. Pour les connexions

avec des cosses à fourche, placez simplement la forme en "U"

contre la borne métallique. Pour les ches banane, ne

dévissez pas le couvercle de la borne de connexion, enlevez le

couvercle en plasque et insérez simplement en haut des

bornes.

ÉTAPE 3 : Vissez le couvercle de la borne de connexion de

manière que le conducteur soit bien en contact avec la borne

métallique et ne risque pas de s'en détacher.

Important : Le non respect des polarités entraîne une

mauvaise balance sonore, une dégradaon de l'imagerie et le

pire de tout, une diminuon dans la réponse des graves.
